FICHA TÉCNICA

Lend-Lease, which would see many antiquated American destroyers given to Britain, passed Congress in February 1941. Despite its neutrality, the USA had decided which way it would stand in the war. In March, the Axis vessels in US ports are put into protective custody, while Japanese spies appear in Pearl Harbor. The capture of U-110 in May gives Britain a working enigma machine and naval codes. HMS Hood is sunk by the Bismarck, which is ultimately sunk after a chase across the Atlantic. In September the first Liberty ship is launched and in December, America enters the war after an attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.

Phil Carradice continues his history of the Second World War at Sea using many rarely seen images.
