FICHA TÉCNICA

The main event of the naval war was the clash of the British Grand and German High Seas Fleets at Jutland. Both sides would claim victory but ultimately, in terms of ships and men lost, the Germans were the winners. No other major sea battle would take place during the war with both fleets tucked up in port much of the time. Kitchener would die on HMS Hampshire off the Orkneys and Britain would lose a great war leader. The submarine war intensified on all fronts and the Gallipoli campaign would end in a defeat for the Allies and a planned withdrawal.

Phil Carradice continues his history of the First World War at Sea using many rarely seen images.
