Another oddball but wonderful publication from the fabled Glasgow house of Brown, Son & Ferguson. This one is of both historical and commercial interest.
Published in 1995, it is still immensely valuable as a text book for salvors and as a reference for those who are interested in maritime history.
As with so many Brown, Son & Ferguson titles, this was written by a very enthusiastic expert. His enthusiasm shows through from practically every page.
The author leaves the glamour of gold, silver and jewellery cargoes largely to one side. He focuses generally on more prosaic cargoes. Nevertheless, the salvage operations he describes that targeted such valuable but unglamorous cargoes are full of fascination.
A delightful and fascinating record of a brilliant career and a brilliant company in Risdon Beazley.
